Kicking off 2019 - Raising Boys - Boy Mom Strong!

Hello Friends!!

I hope you’re all having a great start to your 2019 New Year!!  It’s been fun, fast and busy for us, but we are sure excited for what 2019 holds.  It seems like the time just snowballs into rapid speed so I’ve been working diligently at scheduling and structuring all the things we are doing in our Fashionably Dirty world of raising boys.  I think it’s working because I feel like I’m doing my best work rather than mediocre work because of a hectic schedule. How does that rap song go? “I don’t want no mediocre!!”

We spent 2018 simplifying. Simplifying life, business, family, work, everything!  In 2017 life had become over scheduled, overbooked and just plain ol’ overwhelming!  So I brought it back to basics. I “cleaned house” both figuratively and metaphorically.  It was nice!  I made room for reading books that had been sitting on my Amazon Wish List for way too long. We made time to eat dinner as a family almost every evening. And I focused on listening…. I listened and took notes. That is a fantastic practice.

I started this year with a few goals in mind.  One of them is to not become overwhelmed with all the great things that are going on. I would rather have three projects and do them well than ten projects that are done average.  That take saying “no” to somethings so that you can say “yes” to the things that mean the most to you.  I’ve said no a lot recently, but I’ve realized that in doing that it’s built my confidence in the areas of life where I’ve said yes!  It’s going to be a fun year.

Primary Focus in 2019: Health, raising our boys, and expanding my creative avenues.

Health and Wellness - I have learned this the hard way… I’ll share some of my struggles that I’ve had this past year so that maybe you can learn from my mistakes (or just plain ol’ bad luck). Without your health, you’re no good to anyone else. It’s so easy for moms (and dads) to let their health fall behind.  This makes everything SO much harder!  Especially with three boys. I had something awful happen to me last February that kicked my ass both physically and emotionally. Then I got sick in October with the flu and a bad cold that took me off my feet. I was in bed for three days!  It is January and I still don’t feel like I’ve recovered 100%.  Health and wellness is my FIRST priority this year!

Raising Boys - This is so close to my heart. The conversation around how we are raising boys today is HOT on my list of primary focuses.  We are at a time in our culture of critical change and growth. It is so important to me that we are bring up our boys to be confident men who embody empathy and love for themselves and for all of humanity. Emotions matter!  I want my boys to be able to express their feelings without hearing words like “man up”. I want them to be able to express their creativity and then go play in the mud. I want to remove the labels and grow together where everything is done out of LOVE and not fear.

Expanding Creatively - As a photographer, business is always growing and flexing in different directions.  There’s a lot of new opportunities within photography and the visual creative side of business that are really exciting and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us!

It’s going to be a great year and I invite you to join me.

Happy 2019!!
